Interested in a Slice of Natick Wegmans? Auction Scheduled for August
Furniture, fixtures, and equipment from the recently closed Natick Wegmans store will be up for auction this month. The store closed on July 22, but now there's an opportunity to acquire items from it through an upcoming online auction.
NATICK, MA — If you're aiming to upgrade the equipment in your shop or require additional items for your professional kitchen, the closure of Natick Wegmans could potentially provide a helpful opportunity for you.
Shutting down its Natick Mall branch on July 22, the closure brought disappointment to both local residents and the numerous loyal shoppers.
At present, excess furniture, fixtures, and equipment from the now-shuttered site will be available for online auction in August, hosted on the auction website restaurantequipment.bid.
The auction aims to provide an opportunity for individual food and beverage vendors, restaurants, and even homeowners to acquire high-quality furniture, fixtures, and equipment such as refrigerators, display cases, and racks, all at a significantly reduced cost compared to their typical prices, according to officials.
This is a win/win/win. These auctions present incredible chances for a new or expanding business to economically enhance its equipment. The selling company will effectively clear its inventory. And, for a prominent and thriving company like Wegmans, it offers an extra avenue—to depart from a location in the most environmentally conscious manner. That's our area of expertise," remarked Neal Sherman, the Founder and CEO of TAGeX Brands.
Bidding starts on Aug. 31 at 10 a.m. with items listed for as low as $1.
On June 1, Wegmans revealed their decision to close the store during the summer months.
Throughout that day, the company informed store employees, and they have extended offers to all 365 of them for positions at other nearby stores.
"Reaching such conclusions is always a challenging process. Nevertheless, we make these choices with the ultimate goal of securing the well-being of our employees, customers, and communities," commented Brien MacKendrick, Director of Human Resources in Wegmans' New England division.
"Regrettably, due to the unconventional nature of this location, we have been unable to draw sufficient customers to support the viability of our business model."
