Ranking of Lexington High School in U.S. News' Best High Schools List
Every year, U.S. News and World Report releases a ranking that assesses schools using criteria like graduation rates and academic achievements. Families refer to these rankings to gauge how schools perform nationally, within the state, and locally, considering aspects like graduation rates and preparedness for college.
In the 2023-2024 Best High Schools rankings published by U.S. News & World Report on Tuesday, Lexington High School secured the 6th position within the state and the 221st position nationally.
According to a press release, the yearly rankings provide families with the opportunity to evaluate schools on a national, state, and local scale, considering metrics like academic achievements, graduation percentages, and college preparedness. U.S. News assessed 25,000 schools, ultimately ranking 17,680 of them, which encompassed 348 schools in Massachusetts.
Securing the top position in Massachusetts, Boston Latin School attained a national ranking of 50. The sole additional school within the state to break into the top 100 was Pioneer Valley Chinese Immersion Charter School located in Hadley, ranked at 57.
As indicated in a news release, the yearly rankings offer families the opportunity to assess schools' academic performance, graduation rates, and college preparedness on a national, state, and local basis for comparison.
Typically, the schools that secured the highest ranks exhibited students who excelled in state assessments for mathematics, reading, and science, as outlined by U.S. News. Additionally, they demonstrated remarkable efforts in catering to the requirements of underserved students, encompassing individuals from Black, Hispanic, or low-income backgrounds. These schools boasted a diverse array of curriculum options, notable graduation rates, and their students achieved commendable results in both Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate examinations.
According to U.S. News, among the top 20 ranked schools, eleven were either charter schools or magnet schools.
On a national scale, the highest positions are held by the following schools, in order: The Early College at Guilford in Greensboro, North Carolina; Signature School in Evansville, Indiana; The School for Advanced Studies in Miami; The Davidson Academy of Nevada in Reno; and Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Alexandria, Virginia.
